Overview

This comprehensive circuit includes overnight stays in lodges, guesthouses, and camps.
It is organized using 4x4 vehicles, walking, train, boat, and 4x4 transport, taking you through one of the world's most renowned regions for wildlife enthusiasts. The program offers possible encounters with the famous "Big Five" (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant) and observation of the numerous other inhabitants of African savanna parks.

The trip includes visits to villages in Nakuru, Nyeri, and Shimoni, where you'll meet local representatives of the Terres-En-Eaux association to learn about ongoing and future projects.

During this journey, you’ll explore the following national parks and reserves:

  • Ol Pejeta: A private reserve renowned for its efforts in protecting black and white rhinos on the Laikipia Plateau.

  • Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island: Home to around 350 bird species, numerous hippos, zebras, and antelopes. Its shores are lined with papyrus reeds (explorations by bike, boat, and on foot).

  • Amboseli: A famous reserve with Kilimanjaro as a backdrop, celebrated for its large elephant population (1,500 individuals counted here) and numerous herbivores.

  • Tsavo: The largest national park in Africa, known for its diverse landscapes and numerous mammals.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

​

Day 1: NAIROBI > OL PEJETA

Early departure northward toward Mount Kenya, skirting its western slope to reach Nanyuki and the Ol Pejeta reserve (a 360 km² private reserve located 200 km on paved roads from the airport). First safari through its vast savannahs teeming with species: rhinos, buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, elands, impalas, zebras, gazelles, and many predators: lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, spotted and striped hyenas.

  • Accommodation: Ol Pejeta Serena Sweetwaters Camp (Full Board).

Day 2: OL PEJETA > NYERI

Morning safari at Ol Pejeta, followed by breakfast and checkout. A second safari en route before heading to Nyeri to visit an experimental farm. SIPIK projects (see www.terres-en-eaux.com). Lunch at the farmer's residence.

  • Transfer: 1h00.

Day 3: NYERI > NAKURU

Departure for Nyahururu to visit the famous Thomson Falls (72m), discovered by Scottish explorer Thomson in 1883. Continue along a mountainous route (altitude: 2,200 meters) to Nakuru for lodge check-in. Lunch followed by a visit to the Soar Foundation, a partner of the Terres-En-Eaux association.

  • Transfer: 4h00.

Day 4: NAKURU > LAKE NAIVASHA

Transfer to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake 200 km away. Boat safari to spot hippos, fish eagles, and other waterbirds (350 bird species recorded). Walking safari on Crescent Island, a predator-free paradise home to giraffes and antelopes, offering close-up wildlife encounters.

  • Transfer: 5h00.

Day 5: HELL'S GATE NATIONAL PARK

Safari at Hell's Gate on bicycles along flat terrain among zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and antelopes, followed by a walk through Hell's Gate Canyon (hot springs in the Rift Valley).

  • Transfer: 30 min.

  • Accommodation: Burch’s Camp (Full Board).

Day 6: NAIVASHA > AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Transfer to Amboseli National Park (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve spanning 400 km²). Pass through Nairobi (90 km) and continue 240 km to Amboseli, with a panoramic stop to view the Rift Valley volcanoes (Longonot and Suswa) and Lake Naivasha below. Amboseli is a sanctuary known for abundant wildlife and its proximity to Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m). Afternoon safari upon arrival.

Day 7: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Full-day safari at Amboseli with opportunities to see wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, giraffes, impalas, oryx, buffaloes, hippos, elephants, and over 420 bird species.

Day 8: AMBOSELI > TSAVO WEST NATIONAL PARK

Transfer to Tsavo West National Park. Safari within the park with great opportunities to see elephants, zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, and more.

  • Transfer: 2h00.

  • Accommodation: Serena Kilaguni Lodge (Full Board).

Day 9: TSAVO WEST > SHIMONI, DIANI

Morning safari at Tsavo, followed by breakfast and checkout. Transfer to Mtito Andei train station for the SGR train to Mombasa. Continue to Wagawimbi, Shimoni. Afternoon visit to Wagawimbi village project.

Day 10: WASINI ISLAND - DOLPHIN TOUR

Breakfast at 8:30 am, followed by a boat excursion to Wasini Island for dolphin watching. Visit Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park, snorkeling with dolphins, lunch on Wasini Island, and a village visit before returning to Wagawimbi Villa.

Day 11: SHIMONI DAY

After breakfast, explore mangroves, swim in natural pools along the shore, or fish near the villa. Lunch followed by a visit to a local school and Shimoni Slave Caves.

Day 12: FUNZI ISLAND & RAMISI RIVER

Depart at 8:30 am by boat to Funzi Island for a beach day, lunch, and a cruise along the Ramisi River to observe birds, crocodiles, and mangrove wildlife.

Day 13: RETURN TO NAIROBI

Flight from Diani Airport to Nairobi, followed by an evening flight back to Europe.
