KAMASAI PROJECT
The Kamasai Project is located in Nakuru Town West Constituency, Nakuru County. This is a project for the general consumption and use of local residents. The water is accessible: it is one of the oldest boreholes in the Nakuru Rhonda region and it has served for several years the community which extends throughout the Barut region (Barut, Mwariki, Parkview, Kelelwet and Kigonor)
About the project
KAMASAI drilling faces 2 challenges:
1. The growing population
The rapid increase in population in Barut district is the main challenge that has led to high demand for water supply. This factor has led to the need to subsequently supply more water and, in this case, will require more energy to pump water to reservoirs and to farms. The greater the energy consumption, the more expensive the electricity bills will be, especially since the price of electricity has increased considerably in recent years.
2.Power Supply
Power outages Since drilling relies solely on electricity as the sole mode of operation of the electrical system, there are times when power outages occur, resulting in water supply difficulties. This then leads to a shortage of water supply and consequently an increase in consumer demand in the community.
The solution is in Solar Energy
The ideal solution is to opt for an alternative energy source that will allow the project to operate without additional financial constraints.
The installation of solar panels will be a game changer and will be the only solution that is and will be sustainable today and in the future.
Going green is completely sustainable and green energy with solar panels will make it possible with:
1. The significant reduction in the cost of production, that is to say the pumping of water from the borehole: the cost of electricity will become minimal only in the cases where it must be used.
2. Easy access: As the region is a semi-arid area, solar energy will be suitable because it will use the natural source of energy from the sun's rays.
3. A guaranteed short and long term water supply without variation during the year
4. A diversification of water uses, notably irrigation, thus alleviating the currently existing food insecurity.
