The visit carried out in January 2024 was organized by the Atalante Agency located in Lyon.

This trip was the starting point of a great adventure “the successful Ascension of Mount Kenya”.

He was also at the origin of the start of the activities of the Terres En Eaux Association since Marcel Bony was able to meet Johnson Kimani (Sipik Project 1 and 2) at the very beginning of the trip.

Big THANK YOU to Agence Atalante for this great trip.

For all lovers of Mountains and discovering the fauna and flora in Kenya, we highly recommend this trek.

It’s the experience of a lifetime!

Below in the link you will find the article published in the Bivouaq d'Atalante magazine as written by Etienne Coudret (Journalist) who participated in the trek at the end of January 2014.

The text includes many photos. It tells the story of the ascent of Mount Kenya, a 5,000 meter high volcano. The author shares his impressions and emotions during this adventure, which begins with a preparation trip before reaching the foot of Mt. Each stage of the ascent, marked by slow progress and challenges linked to altitude, is accompanied by stories told by Peter, the guide. The author describes the beauty of the landscapes and encounters, particularly with animals such as chameleons and hyraxes (*).

The group finally reached the summit, at 4985 meters, after a difficult but rewarding climb, before descending, satisfied and moved by the accomplished feat. The ascent is also an opportunity to discover the kindness of the locals and to live a unique experience. The adventure ends with a safari with breathtaking views of Mount Kenya,

To go further on hyraxes:

The Hyracoids (Hyracoidea) are an order of placental mammals of the superorder Afrotherians. It currently only includes one family, the procaviidae, commonly called the hyraxes. They are the elephants' closest terrestrial cousins. https://youtu.be/EmEEISXhoc8

You still have to be wary of their teeth...
